True Repentance
Many in the Church today wonder what true repentance is. Jesus says over and over again in the Gospels that if one does not repent they will perish. The first words of the preaching ministry of both John the Baptist and Jesus Christ was “repent and believe the Gospel.” What is true repentance? Repentance is defined as a sorrow for sin that compels one to turn from sin and surrender all entirely to Jesus Christ. An even better way to define repentance is to see an example of true repentance. Perhaps the greatest example of repentance in the New Testament is when Mary Magdalene came to Christ and poured out an alabaster flask of fragrant oil and washed his feet with her tears and her hair. She also kissed His feet as she washed them. Mary shows how her life had been transformed by the Grace of God. Jesus says to her that wherever the Gospel is preached what she has done would be told as a memorial to her. May the Church today look to Mary as an example of true repentance. Listen to this sermon jam and share it with all who wonder what repentance is.
